Annual Asthma Review
If you have asthma, it’s important to have a review at least once a year. An annual asthma review helps ensure your asthma is well controlled, your treatment is working effectively, and you feel confident managing your symptoms.
What is the asthma review for?
The review allows us to:
-
Check how well your asthma is controlled
-
Reduce the risk of asthma attacks
-
Make sure your inhalers and medications are right for you
-
Update your personal asthma action plan
-
Answer any questions or concerns you may have
Regular reviews are recommended by the NHS and help support your long-term health and wellbeing.
What happens during the appointment?
Your asthma review is usually carried out by a practice nurse or healthcare professional and may include:
-
A discussion about your symptoms, triggers, and any recent flare-ups
-
Reviewing how often you use your inhalers
-
Checking your inhaler technique
-
Reviewing or updating your asthma action plan
-
Discussing lifestyle factors such as smoking, exercise, and allergies
-
Arranging further tests or follow-up if needed
How to prepare for your review
To help make the most of your appointment:
-
Bring all your inhalers and spacer devices
-
Be ready to discuss your symptoms and any concerns
-
Let us know if you’ve had any recent asthma attacks or needed urgent care
Annual asthma reviews are an important part of keeping your asthma under good control and reducing the risk of emergency treatment.
